Reports to: Housing Services Manager/Volunteer Coordinator
Key Responsibilities
Client Support:
· Aid clients in understanding their housing options and rights.
· Help clients complete housing applications and other relevant paperwork.
· Provide information on available housing options and local services.
Case Management:
· Understand clients' housing needs and circumstances.
· Develop and implement individualised housing plans in collaboration with clients.
· Follow up with clients to monitor progress and provide ongoing support.
Advocacy:
· Advocate on behalf of clients with landlords ,housing authorities, and other agencies.
· Help clients understand and navigate the housing system and related processes.
Information and Referral:
· Provide accurate information about housing resources and services available in the community.
· Refer clients to other relevant services, such as legal aid, financial assistance, or social services.
Documentation and Reporting:
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions and case notes.
· Prepare reports as required by the Housing Services Manager.
Community Outreach:
· Participate in community outreach activities to promote the Humbercare housing services.
· Build relationships with stakeholders.
Skills and Qualities Needed
Communication Skills:
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to listen actively and empathetically.
Organisational Skills:
· Strong organisational and time management skills.
· Ability to manage multiple cases and tasks simultaneously.
Critical Thinking Skills:
· Ability to think critically and develop creative solutions to housing issues.
· Empathy and Compassion
· A caring and non-judgmental attitude towards clients facing housing challenges.
Knowledge of Housing Issues:
· Basic understanding of housing issues, policies ,and resources (training and induction will be provided).
Confidentiality:
· Ability to manage sensitive information confidentially.
Time Commitment:
· A minimum commitment of 1-2 hours per week for 3months is required. The exact schedule can be flexible and agreed upon with the Housing Services Manager/Volunteer Coordinator.
Training and Support:
· Volunteers will receive initial training covering key aspects of the role, including housing policies, client support techniques, and confidentiality.
· The Housing Services Manager/Volunteer Coordinator will provide ongoing support and supervision, with opportunities for further training and development.
