THE PROJECT
The aim of the project is recruit Mentors who will offer support, guidance and practical help to clients as they go through a difficult and challenging period of their life.
THE MENTORING PROJECT RECRUITS, TRAINS AND MATCHES VOLUNTEERS TO SUPPORT CLIENTS OF THE PROBATION SERVICE.
Access to the Mentoring Project is via our referral form.
The project offers support in areas of:
- Life Skills and Budgeting
- Befriending; Role Modelling
- Literacy and numeracy
- Employment & training support
- Further education support
- Accommodation support
The mentor volunteers are given support and attend an initial 3-day Induction Programme with the opportunity to gain a qualification accredited through the Open College Network (OCN).
Aim
To have available Mentoring provision, in appropriate circumstances, for clients of the National Probation Service (Humberside)
To have in place a group of volunteer Mentors that can be matched to client needs proposed as part of their individual assessment and Action Plan.
Objectives
- To recruit, train and support volunteer Mentors
- To match Mentor with a client requiring support and assist in the maintenance of the Client/Mentor relationship
- To ensure the Client/Mentor relationship takes forwsrd the aims of their individual Action Plan
Development
The role of the co-ordinator will be to give ongoing help and support concentrated in areas that will allow Mentors to feel they are a part of a team and their contribution is a valued one.
Some of the issues will be:
- To liaise with the National Probation Service (Humberside) in setting up policies to ensure the safety and welfare of Mentors and Clients
- To liaise with supervising Probation Officers, clients and mentors in order to arrange matching meetings to take place. Arranging introductions and assisiting the Mentor to take forward the client's individual Action Plan
- To Provide supervision for the Mentors and deal with any issiues arising from the Client/Mentor relationship
