This project is offered to all Humbercare clients and is run as a franchise with Hull College.

Clients can join a ‘Life Skills’ based course which gives them the opportunity to gain an award that acknowledges the skills they are using and developing as they work towards independent living. Alongside the ‘Life Skills’ qualification Learners also undertake a Literacy qualification.

Learners can gain the award from their own home if preferred but are encouraged to work in a small group once a week.

Learners can use laptop computers for some or all of their work.

Clients are encouraged to direct their own learning and to set themselves ‘SMART’ targets.

The project has enjoyed success so far with all of the clients that have tried it encouraging others to ‘have a go’.

Clients are encouraged to progress to courses in which they can gain more formal qualifications either with Humbercare or Hull College.

The Life Skills Tutor can talk to clients about any academic aims and signpost as necessary.
